THE ART OF FIRE
Fire has been with us from the beginning of human history. We explore the earliest fire, from its most primitive roots, and show how fire was made in the pre-technological societies. We move through the ages, and show flint and steel, and discuss the four methods by which fire can be made: friction, chemistry, the sun, and electricity.
You’ll see all these methods, and learn to never leave home without a butane lighter! With the sun, fire can be made with a magnifying glass, reading glasses, the bottom of a cola can, with a Fresnel lens, and even with a solar cooker. We’ll explore how to make a fire from your car if your car breaks down in the remote wilderness.
The details of this class are based upon Nyerges’ years of teaching his Fire Workshops in the field, and many of the images you’ll see are from those years of classes. A good companion to this class is Nyerges’ book, “How to Survive Anywhere,” or his “Guide to Making Fire Without Matches,” both available at our store.
About two hours. $25.
